Laptops are different tho My laptop was hot as hell to, and i wasnt even playing very gpu intensive games. Infact, the only 2 games i played were TF2 and Lineage2. So i bought one of those notebook coolers for it. About 5-6 months ago the screen suddenly went black and on an extern monitor the screen was full of artifacts.. graphics card burned. There goes €1300 seeing as Toshiba refuses to fix it It was only 15 days over its 1 year warranty, and even after that you should have a minimum of 3 years warranty on the hardware.

Yeah my system is known to spontaneously combust from time to time haha. My screen gave out too, but it wasn't cause of the video card. The little light thing at the bottom died out. It was an oddity in it's own I guess. And I totally understand that compacting a bunch of gadgets in a tiny easy to carry case would render it any easy target for overheating. Just don't want my small tiny room to heat up like a sauna. Haha.

| Re-touching this because I think I'm gonna start purchasing parts.
How hard do you think it would be to assemble by myself, with no knowledge? Or is there somewhere local I could go to and they could put it together. (ie, bestbuy/etc)
So far, I'm taking the advice on mostly what Luna has suggested. However the motherboard he mentioned is discontinued. And instead of a dual core, I insist on going quad.
Also, Necro, any suggestions on a PSU? Just want to see my opinionated options.

| Does anyone know any way of making the Quad core more efficient than the Dual?
Or should I still just aim for the Dual?
From what I googled here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/254391-28-what-makes-dual-core-quad-core-gaming
Dual does beat Quad in gaming, but people are saying that the Quad can clock up to and be just as good as a dual, and still has two cores unused which would suit other applications.
Which in theory should benefit me, since I will be multitasking with other things... right?

Otherwise I'm wingin' it. I would get some Arctic Silver thermal compound for the cpu heatsink, because the compound they give you with the heatsink is probly not the best. Also I suggest getting some thermal compound remover/cleaner just in case you don't get it right the first time or have to remove the cpu heatsink for some reason. Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007 Compound remover/cleaner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100010 Here's instructions on how to apply the thermal compound: http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appinstruct/as5/ins_as5_intel_quad_wcap.pdf

| So much harder to put together than I imagined.
Know any pro's that can?
Putting in the CPU was the least of my worries, it's a snap in pin deal.
Had way more troubles with wiring...
No clue how to connect mobo to the DVD burner. Maybe got the HD to connect to the mobo PSU > mobo might work.
The front panel (on/off, usb, audio/mic) is a fucking mess, no clue if I got any of it right.
My manual is a piece of shit.
And my mobo didn't come with a plug for the monitor? I don't even know how to check to see if I installed/connected anything right..
